|Title||Policy Area “Hazard”: Pharmaceuticals in the Baltic Sea environment|
|Date||15 Dec 2015 9:00 - 15 Dec 2015 18:00|
|Organiser||EUSBSR Policy Area Coordinator Hazards, HELCOM and BDF|
Innovative ideas on how to prevent pharmaceutical substances to reach the Baltic environment and cause negative effects are needed. If you have a project idea, pitch it to the funding Programmes, get a feedback from the expert community, meet new partners at the conference “Pharmaceuticals in the Baltic Sea Environment”.
The Policy Area ‘Hazards’ in the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region in partnership with HELCOM and the Baltic Development Forum cordially invite you to the conference and project development workshop. The EU funding Programmes Interreg Baltic Sea Region, BONUS and Interreg South Baltic present financing opportunities and provide direct feedback to ideas for international projects that help to prevent pharmaceutical substances to reach the Baltic Sea environment.
Pharmaceutical residues in the Baltic Sea are causing concern as the full impact for the marine environment is still unknown. Human and livestock excretion of drugs and metabolites following consumption, as well as disposal of unused pharmaceuticals, are pathways to the environment. Many pharmaceutical substances cannot be effectively removed by conventional waste water treatment.
In this conference, the organisers bring together stakeholders for implementation with policy makers and funding instruments. The aim is to stimulate good quality project ideas that can be developed and implemented in the Baltic Region within the coming years. The meeting is organized back to back with the 11th meeting of the EUSBSR PA ’Hazards’ Steering Group.
