The European Union Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR) is the first Macro-regional Strategy in Europe. The Strategy was approved by the European Council in 2009 following a communication from the European Commission. The Strategy is an agreement between the Member States of the EU and the European Commission to strengthen cooperation between the countries bordering the Baltic Sea in order to meet the common challenges and to benefit from common opportunities facing the region. More than 200 projects have been carried out within the framework of the Strategy, delivering concrete results for a clean Baltic Sea, tackling climate change, green energy, sustainable transport, and health and well-being, making Baltic Sea region an attractive place to live and work.

Interreg Baltic Sea Region supports the implementation of the EUSBSR by funding projects and governance mechanisms. Many of the projects co-financed by Interreg Baltic Sea Region will set-up workshops or presentations in the networking village.
